Start at Beechworth 16km fun downhill run to Everton Station through historic rail cuttings, past wineries and spectacular scenery, then 28km to Wangaratta and finally 18km to Milawa all of which is on the rail trail except a small part through Wangaratta.
The shorter option is to leave the rail trail at Everton and take a ride along quiet back roads (fully sealed) through lovely farm land to the Milawa Cheese Factory and then Milawa itself.
Milawa is a gourmet food and wine area with lots of local food producers and wineries to visit and spend time sampling food and tasting wines.
At the end of your day get picked up by our shuttle bus from one of the wineries or cafes and be taken back uphill to Beechworth which is a beautiful historic town with great cafes restaurants and places to visit.
The Beechworth to Everton Rail Trail is another fantastic cycling route located in the northeastern region of Victoria, Australia. This trail follows the path of the old railway line from Beechworth to Everton, covering a distance of approximately 19 km, 15km of which is downhill.
Starting in Beechworth, a historic town renowned for its gold rush era architecture, cyclists can embark on their journey along this scenic trail. The trail consists of a well-maintained sealed path, making it suitable for cyclists of all levels
As you pedal along the route, you'll pass through picturesque farmlands and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Just out of Beechworth is the fabulous Pennyweight Winery.
The trail takes you across old railway bridges and through beautiful stretches of bushland, providing opportunities to connect with nature and take memorable photos.
You'll arrive in the small township of Everton. Here, you can take a break at the local general store, the pub or enjoy a picnic at the nearby Everton Station.
The Beechworth to Everton Rail Trail offers a peaceful and scenic ride, away from traffic and immersed in nature. It is suitable for , providing a great opportunity to enjoy the region's natural landscapes while getting some exercise and fresh air.
Remember though it is nearly all uphill back to Beechworth so this is where an E bike or utilising our shuttles is a great idea

If you're up for a longer ride, you can continue cycling beyond Yackandandah to Osbournes Flat. This section adds an extra 7 kilometers to the journey, but it rewards you with even more beautiful scenery.
Overall, the Beechworth to Yackandandah Rail Trail, along with the optional ride to Osbournes Flat, offers a wonderful cycling experience with a mix of history, nature, and quaint towns to explore along the way.
Return to Beechworth on the same trail or via our shuttle bus from Yackandandah
After spending the morning exploring Beechworth you head off 19km down the hill again to Everton township. Then head 24km up the valley to Myrtleford. On the way you can visit several wineries, enjoy a beer at a country pub or a world famous hamburger at the Everton Store. Nice cafes, eclectic shops a couple of wineries and great Italian dining at await you at Myrtleford.
Stay the night or get the return shuttle to Beechworth
History and beautiful scenery is what this ride is about.
Starting from our shop in the heart of historic Beechworth you will ride the start of the Yackandandah Rail Trail, including a beautiful avenue of trees. You then ride on quite sealed roads to see the Chinese Burning Towers. the monument to the Golden Horseshoes, the Powder Magazine, the old hospital facade, Billson's Brewery, old miners cottages, then its back on the rail trail to visit Pennyweight Winery .
See all this whilst enjoying the beautiful natural and built scenery of Beechworth and the Gorge
Leaving Bright you cycle gently uphill to the picturesque village of Wandiligong, 6km. Here you can visit the hedge maze, explore some of the artists shops or have a beer in the Wandi Pub.
Then it's all downhill from here. Cruise back through Bright enjoying the stunning alpine scenery and marvelling at the paragliders as the soar through the skys before landing next to the rail trail. Carry on 6km past Bright along the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail to Porepunkah. This small but pretty town is on the banks of the Ovens River. Pop in for a coffee or meal at on of the cafes or sample some local wines at the two wineries just a few km's past the village.
The return ride back to bright takes you through some stunning avenues of trees, especially beautiful in autumn.
This is a beautiful ride following the Ovens River up to the lovely quaint township of Harrietville, which is at the base of Mount Hotham.
On the way to Harrietville you will have a gentle climb, 200m rise over the 26km journey , There are plenty of picnic stops along the banks of the Ovens and with the alpine valley closing in as you travel along this is one very scenic ride . Stop off at the Trout farm and catch your dinner.
Once at Harrietville there are two pubs, a cafe and bakery so you are spoilt for choice for lunch.
If you are riding during week days it does pay to check who will be open and when.
As you have been slowly climbing on the way there the ride back to Bright is a breeze and a great fun ride
Starting in the centre of Bright you head out on the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail for 6km to Porepunkah. Here you will find the iconic Rail Trail Cafe, the Punkah Pub and some great swimming areas on the Ovens River. Leaving Porepunkah you will have two wineries to choose from, Ringer Reef, 12 to 5 six days a week and Feather Top Winery, check their hours as the change depending on the seasons.
Further down the trail you will pass a berry farm, with great ice cream. Eurobin Station is halfway and has toilets and a picnic area. Here you have stunning views of Mt Buffalo. You will start to see many of the old tobacco kilns as well as some large hop plantations
Ovens has the fabulous Pumpkin Seed and Oil shop and is a must to visit.
Just past here is the Happy Valley Hotel, which offers lovely meals Wed to Sunday.
Once at Myrtleford don't miss Cafe Fez and the fascinating Red Ramia.

This two day ride takes you to your choice of wineries in Beechworth, Milawa, Oxley and Myrtleford.
Day one: After breakfast and coffee you head out of Beechworth on the Rail Trail and visit Pennyweight Winery, a third generation family run, certified biodynamic winery.
Next it's downhill to on the cycle path, through some stunning scenery to Everton township. Here you can grab a bite to eat, a coffee or one of their world famous milkshakes.
The next part of the ride is 17km to Milawa, which is in the gourmet food region. This route takes you on very quiet back roads through some pretty farmlands.
In Milawa you can enjoy lunch at the Milawa Kitchen, situated next to the award winning Milawa Cheese, Wood Park Wines and down the road from Milawa Mustards.
A further 2 kms brings you into Milawa township with an olive shop, bakery, pub, Henley's cafe and wine bar, honey and mead and is home to Brown Brothers Winery.
At Brown Brothers you can take part in one of their wine experiences or just relax under the shade trees enjoying a drink or two.
Oxley is an option and is a further 9km and home to John Gehrig Wines, Sam Miranda Winery and the wonderful King River Cafe
Overnight accommodation is available at several AirBnB's, Milawa Motel, Milawa Caravan Park and the Lancemore Boutique Hotel
Day two: Enjoy a casual breakfast and it's along the back roads to Everton for morning tea. The next section is along the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail with a slight climb up and over Taylors Gap, then a 4km downhill cruise to Gapsted Winery for a sumptuous meal and wines to match, bookings required.
You can either end you ride here and get picked up by our shuttle or continue on 7km into Myrtleford, visiting Michelini Wines, a family operated vineyard and winery producing some of the Alpine regions finest cool climate wines before getting the shuttle to Beechworth

You will have started to see many of the old tobacco kilns as well as some large hop plantations. Eurobin Station is halfway and has toilets and a picnic area. Here you have stunning views of Mt Buffalo.
2km further down the trail you will pass a Buffalo Berry Farm, with berry pies and great berry ice cream a firm favourite of many of our riders.
just before Porepunkah you will have two wineries to choose from, Feather Top Winery, check their hours as the change depending on the seasons and Ringer Reef, 12 to 5pm seven days a week.
The Punkah Pub and Rail Trail Cafe are popular stops, just in case you are still hungry or thirsty, then it is a beautiful 6 km ride into Bright.
Travel back to Beechworth on our late afternoon shuttle or stay the night in Bright.
